What each player can do here
- Captain Toad, or Toadette in her chapters: no jumping at all. You walk, pull plants out of Pluck Patches, throw turnips and turn the camera to read each course.
- Assist Mode: Player 2 steers a pointer and fires red turnips at enemies and loose coins. Those turnips cannot press switches, break Rock Blocks or hurt bosses.
- Adventure for Two (added in 2019): Player 2 runs a second explorer with the full move set. A fallen player floats back in a bubble; if both go down together, the course restarts.one guide
- Both two-player modes work only in TV or tabletop mode; Assist Mode is played with a pair of Joy-Con, one per player.
If your skill levels differ: Hand the newer player the Assist Mode pointer: Nintendo pitches the second seat as tossing turnips at enemies, while Player 1 keeps the puzzles and the walking. Move to Adventure for Two once you both want a character of your own. How to split the roles
The courses
Part 1 of 3. Clear the eighteen courses and collect Super Gems.
- BothEpisode 1 has 18 courses. Each hides three Super Gems, and clearing a course once opens a bonus objective for it.
- BothSuper Gems open later courses: The King of Pyropuff Peak, for one, stays locked until you hold 12.
- BothShy Guy Heights' bonus objective asks you to get past every Shy Guy unseen: walk instead of running and keep out of their line of sight.
The King of Pyropuff Peak
Part 2 of 3. Climb the volcano past Draggadon.
Wingo's Watchtower
Part 3 of 3. Climb the tower and beat Wingo.
- BothWingo's wing gusts shove you and slide some of the tower's blocks around; tuck in behind raised edges and use the moving blocks when they line up.
Boss
DraggadonThe volcano dragon
- The climb: Draggadon breathes fire while you climb, and lava rises behind you at set points so you cannot go back. At the top, the platform holding the Power Star drops onto his head and knocks him out; take the Star from there.single source
WingoThe giant bird
- Giant turnips: At the top Wingo drops giant turnips, trying to squash you. Pull one out of the ground (it takes several presses) and throw it at him; three hits win.
- After the second hit, Toadette throws you a mushroom.one guide
