What each player can do here

P1 · Donkey Kong
  • Player 1 is Donkey Kong: punch, climb and dig through the terrain, tear off chunks to throw, and do all the platforming while Pauline rides along.
  • Pauline's singing turns DK into his Bananza forms, each learned from an Elder in one of the layers.
P2 · Pauline
  • Player 2 is Pauline, riding on DK's shoulder. Aim and fire vocal blasts at enemies and walls (Joy-Con 2 mouse controls or motion aiming), and copy nearby terrain to power up the blasts.
  • A second player can join with a shared Joy-Con, or from another Switch 2 (even a Switch 1) through GameShare with one copy of the game.
  • In the Groove Layer Pauline is not with DK: she is gone from when the eel swallows her until the two reunite at the start of the Feast Layer.

If your skill levels differ: DK handles every jump, and Pauline's job is aiming her blasts (and copying terrain to power them up), with motion or stick aiming. For an easier run overall, Assist Mode adds path guidance, aim assist, reduced damage and health that refills. Our suggestionGive the newer player Pauline. How to split the roles

Groove Layer

Part 1 of 2. Get through without Pauline.

  1. BothA giant eel swallows Pauline and DK falls into the Groove Layer alone, so Player 2 has no Pauline to control until they meet again.

Feast Layer

Part 2 of 2. Press the five Burger Switches.

  1. BothBack together, DK and Pauline tour the park's attractions to press five Burger Switches and build the giant burger.
  2. BothMad Mixer is back as Mad Mixer Remix: the same mine-cart fight with Boom Rocks, now also with Salt Rocks to clear the muck walls it builds.
  3. BothMuckety-Muck is fought like a big Muckoid: Hand Slap salt chunks up from the floor and throw them at him.

Where people tend to fall

  • The Elephant Bananza cannot vacuum up the muck in the Muckety-Muck fight; stick to salt.

Boss

Mad Mixer RemixThe first boss

  1. Mine cart: Boom Rocks at the machine, Salt Rocks for the muck walls.

Muckety-MuckThe second boss

  1. Salt: Raise salt chunks with Hand Slap and throw them at him.
