What each player can do here

P1 · Donkey Kong
  • Player 1 is Donkey Kong: punch, climb and dig through the terrain, tear off chunks to throw, and do all the platforming while Pauline rides along.
  • Pauline's singing turns DK into his Bananza forms, each learned from an Elder in one of the layers.
P2 · Pauline
  • Player 2 is Pauline, riding on DK's shoulder. Aim and fire vocal blasts at enemies and walls (Joy-Con 2 mouse controls or motion aiming), and copy nearby terrain to power up the blasts.
  • A second player can join with a shared Joy-Con, or from another Switch 2 (even a Switch 1) through GameShare with one copy of the game.

If your skill levels differ: DK handles every jump, and Pauline's job is aiming her blasts (and copying terrain to power them up), with motion or stick aiming. For an easier run overall, Assist Mode adds path guidance, aim assist, reduced damage and health that refills. Our suggestionGive the newer player Pauline. How to split the roles

Ingot Isle Cave-In

Part 1 of 3. Climb out of the cave-in and dive to the first layer.

  1. BothThe first stretch teaches the basics. The Crockoid at the top is a practice fight rather than a real boss: dodge its club and hit back with a stone chunk you tear out of the ground.

Lagoon Layer

Part 2 of 3. Fix the reservoir, meet the Kong Elder and learn the Kong Bananza.

  1. BothThe reservoir is blocked: break the Void Stake guarded by a Crockoid, then knock out the concrete pillars so water fills the sublayer and the bridge to the Kong Elder opens.single source
  2. BothAt the Kong Elder, Pauline's singing gives DK the Kong Bananza, the first of the five forms: much stronger punches that break hard terrain.

Peekabruiser (boss)

Part 3 of 3. Beat the octopus heap and open the way down.

  1. BothPeekabruiser spits streams of small octopus enemies and charges around the arena; step aside when it charges.
  2. BothWhile its body is coated in concrete, normal hits do nothing. Turn into the Kong Bananza and punch until the concrete shatters.
  3. BothStripped of armour, it forms a hill and calls its octopuses back. Climb the hill and hit it before it gets its armour back.
  4. BothBeaten, it leaves a stake; break it to open the sinkhole to the next layer.

  2. Hill: Forms a hill to regroup; climb it and hit it before the armour returns.
