What each player can do here

P1 · Donkey Kong
  • Player 1 is always Donkey Kong. When the partner climbs onto his back, Player 1 steers both Kongs.
  • Bananas fill the Kong POW meter; with a partner along, it clears the screen and turns enemies into pickups. In two-player play both of you press the button at the same time.
P2 · Partner Kong
  • Player 2 picks Diddy, Dixie or Cranky and can run alone or ride on Donkey Kong's back. Diddy's jetpack stretches a jump, Dixie's ponytail spin lifts you higher and pushes through strong currents, and Cranky's cane bounces on spikes.
  • Each of you has your own hearts. If Player 2 runs out, the team loses a life; the fallen Kong comes back from the next DK Barrel while the other carries on.

If your skill levels differ: Player 1 then moves both Kongs while the partner still uses their own ability. For an easier game overall, start the save in Funky Mode on Switch: every Kong gets a third heart. Our suggestionFor a newer player: take the partner seat and climb onto Donkey Kong's back for the hard stretches. How to split the roles

The levels and secret exits

Part 1 of 3. Clear the island, take the secret exit in Frozen Frenzy and open the K level.

  1. BothFrozen Frenzy (6-7): after the letter N, climb above the two hanging vines and have Cranky cane-bounce across the spiky platforms to the portal. It opens 6-A Dynamite Dash.
  2. BothClearing Dynamite Dash opens 6-B Icicle Arsenal; there is no second secret exit here.single source
  3. BothEvery regular level holds the letters K, O, N and G. Collect all four in a single run of each level here and the island's K level opens.

6-K Slippy Spikes

Part 2 of 3. The last K level.

  1. BothUnlike most K levels, Slippy Spikes has a Kong Barrel at the start. IGN rates it easier than you might expect for the last K level.single source

Volcano Dome (boss)

Part 3 of 3. Beat Lord Fredrik.

  1. BothFredrik drops a row of ice balls; stand in a gap or jump to dodge the shards. Enemies come out of them: pick one up and throw it at him in the background.
  2. BothAfter a hit he jumps to the front and charges back and forth. Stomp his back, never his helmet.
  3. BothFrom the second phase he sends ice dragons that ice over the floor, so watch your footing.
  4. BothIn the last phase he slams the ground and the platforms rise and sink into the lava in turn; stay on one that is up. His charging ice dragons: jump the low ones, duck the high ones. Nine hits end the game's main story.

Where people tend to fall

  • IGN recommends Diddy or Dixie here for the extra air time over the lava.

Boss

Lord FredrikThe final boss

  1. Ice balls and charges: Throw a freed enemy at him, then stomp his back as he charges.
  2. Ice dragons: Ice dragons slick the floor; same pattern.
  3. Lava platforms: Platforms rise and sink in the lava; jump low dragons, duck high ones.
