What each player can do here

P1 · Spacenaut 1
  • Run into a station to use it: a turret (aim and fire, short range), the engine (fly the ship), the shield (turn it around the hull), the Yamato cannon (a big hit, then a recharge) or the map.
  • Playing alone, you get an AI space-pet, a dog or a cat, to send to a station. It handles the guns and the shield well but cannot fly the engine.
P2 · Spacenaut 2
  • The same stations. Drop a gem into a station to change how it works; once the ship is upgraded, each station takes two gems.

If your skill levels differ: PSNProfiles' no-damage tip keeps one player on the shield for most of a level while the other flies and moves between the guns. Our suggestionGive the shield to the newer player and let the steadier one fly and call the swaps. How to split the roles

The four levels

Part 1 of 2. Free enough captured friends to reach the boss.

  1. BothEach campaign is four levels and a boss fight.
  2. BothIn a level, shoot open the cages and beat the enemies that come out to free captured friends. Five of the ten in a level open a heart-shaped portal onward.
  3. BothThe levels are Celestial Snowfields, Solar Vents, Winter Wormhole and Melt Zone; The Hunter is the fifth stage.

Where people tend to fall

  • White dwarf stars first appear in Orion. Their pull is too strong for the engine; shooting or ramming one throws you clear.
  • The first level has plenty of fixed security guns; enemies that follow you into their fire die there.

The Hunter (boss)

Part 2 of 2. Melt the ice with solar flares, then hit the upper body.

  1. BothShoot the sun it throws out: the solar flares that burst from it melt Orion's ice, and only then can you hurt it.
  2. BothAt half health it splits in two. The legs stay on the outer edge and stab with drills, the top half floats: stay near the middle and keep hitting the top.

Boss

OrionThe third campaign boss

  1. Ice armour: It freezes itself so shots do nothing, and now and then throws out a fireball you can shoot into flares.
  2. Split: From half health, the legs and the upper body fight apart; the upper body is the target.
  • Before the split, watch for icicles that form around the ship and fly in, and for its spinning sword. Steam's guide adds that its melee swings are slow and easy to block with the shield.
  • Power weapons work best here: the fastest fire makes the most flares.
