What each player can do here

P1 · Spacenaut 1
  • Run into a station to use it: a turret (aim and fire, short range), the engine (fly the ship), the shield (turn it around the hull), the Yamato cannon (a big hit, then a recharge) or the map.
  • Playing alone, you get an AI space-pet, a dog or a cat, to send to a station. It handles the guns and the shield well but cannot fly the engine.
P2 · Spacenaut 2
  • The same stations. Drop a gem into a station to change how it works; once the ship is upgraded, each station takes two gems.

If your skill levels differ: PSNProfiles' no-damage tip keeps one player on the shield for most of a level while the other flies and moves between the guns. Our suggestionGive the shield to the newer player and let the steadier one fly and call the swaps. How to split the roles

The four levels

Part 1 of 2. Free enough captured friends to reach the boss.

  1. BothEach campaign is four levels and a boss fight.
  2. BothIn a level, shoot open the cages and beat the enemies that come out to free captured friends. Five of the ten in a level open a heart-shaped portal onward.
  3. BothThe levels are Forest Cluster, Planetoidia, Wormhole Outpost and Cavernous Core; The Great Bear is the fifth stage.
  4. BothWormhole Outpost is an arena: a wormhole engine is fixed to the ship, and you keep it alive through waves of enemies until it warps you on.
  5. BothBoxes with a question mark hold gems for your stations; they turn up in every level but not in boss fights.

Where people tend to fall

  • Level layouts are randomized every time you play, so these pages stick to what stays fixed: the level list, the goal and the bosses.
  • Ursa Major has no special mechanic of its own, unlike the later campaigns.
  • Fog hides most of each map until you fly close; the map station shows what is still covered.

The Great Bear (boss)

Part 2 of 2. Block the punches and hit the head.

  1. BothOne player holds the shield and turns it to meet each punch; a shockwave on the paw shows a punch is coming.
  2. BothThe other player stays on a turret and aims for the head: the rest of the bear is armoured.
  3. BothYou can leave the ship where it is for this fight.single source

Boss

Ursa MajorThe first campaign boss

  1. Punches: It punches at the sides of the ship and dives at the front.
  2. Weak spot: Only the exposed head takes damage.
  • It also fires homing missiles from its hands and often teleports to the other side of the ship. PSNProfiles says to let those hit if you must and save the shield for the punches.
  • For a no-damage try, Steam's guide suggests the Jelly Roll with a Power or Metal shield turned to the front, so one player turns the ship into each attack.

Extras and notes

  • Rescued friends raise your rank, which unlocks new ship layouts and the second gem slot in each station.
  • Beating a campaign with a ship earns that ship's badge; one campaign apiece with the Jelly Roll, the Banana Split and the Gumball gives the Token of Affection trophy.
  • Finishing a campaign without placing a single gem earns Love Is All You Need; both trophy guides pick this first campaign for it.
  • Fandom's gem table, in short: Power adds a turret barrel, a bigger shield, engine boosts and homing Yamato missiles; Beam gives charged beams and a reflecting shield; Metal gives a thrown flail, a spiked ramming shield, dropped caltrops and a saw blade around the hull.
