What each player can do here

P1 · Host
  • Only the host can upgrade the farmhouse; each cabin is upgraded by the farmhand who lives in it.
P2 · Farmhand
  • Has an energy bar, skill levels and villager friendships of their own; quests mostly track each player separately.

If your skill levels differ: Experience goes to whoever does the action (the player who harvests a crop gets the farming experience), and quest difficulty follows the highest-level player. Our suggestionWhen skill levels differ: let the newer player take one skill of their own, such as fishing or foraging, while the other runs the crops. How to split the roles

What is shared and what is not

Part 1 of 3. Know what belongs to the farm and what belongs to each player.

  1. BothShared: the farm's land, and the gold too unless you picked separate wallets.
  2. BothYour own: inventory, skill levels, energy and friendships with villagers.
  3. BothA farmhand starts with basic tools, so on an older farm the host can hand over upgraded tools; each player's own tools are upgraded one at a time.
  4. HostWhen a farmhand is offline, their inventory can be reached through a chest in their cabin.single source

The clock and bedtime

Part 2 of 3. Plan the day knowing time does not stop for menus.

  1. BothThe clock keeps running while one of you browses a shop or sorts the inventory, so days go faster than in single-player.
  2. HostOnly the host can freeze time, by typing /pause in the chat box (T opens chat on PC); /resume starts it again.
  3. BothBedtime, starting a festival and the choice between the Community Center and a Joja membership are all made together, so agree on them out loud.

Good to know

  • In split-screen the clock only pauses when every player is in a menu or a cutscene at the same time.
  • At 2:00 am a player still in a menu or cutscene passes out as soon as they close it.

Progress that counts for everyone

Part 3 of 3. See which milestones one player can finish for the whole farm.

  1. BothMine floors reached count for everyone, and each player opens the mine chests for themselves.single source
  2. BothThe museum collection is shared, and every player collects their own set of donation rewards.single source
  3. BothFinishing a Community Center room unlocks its reward for every player, but a single bundle's reward can only be picked up by the player who completed it.single source
