What each player can do here

P1 · Mario
  • Mario: all the running, jumping and captures. There are no lives; when Mario is defeated he drops 10 coins and goes back into the level.
P2 · Cappy
  • Cappy: flies freely but only within a set range of Mario, jumps and ground-pounds on its own, clears hazards off the ground, and can give Mario about a second of float once per jump.
  • Until Player 2 presses a button, Cappy simply hovers above Mario's head, and it keeps moving even while Mario is inside a capture.
  • Start two-player from the + menu under Two Players; pressing left on the directional buttons swaps who plays Mario.one guide

If your skill levels differ: The newer player takes Cappy: it cannot get lost, because it stays within range of Mario and simply rides on his head until moved. The Cappy player's clearest way to help is the float boost, once per jump. How to split the roles

The volcano

Part 1 of 1. Earn enough Moons to leave.

  2. BothStory order: Spewart outside Peronza Plaza, a lever hidden in the cheese rocks, the stew pot atop Mount Volbono, the climb back out of the volcano cave after the eruption, and Cookatiel.

  1. Lava ramp: You fight as a captured Lava Bubble. Dodge the spiky fruit; when Cookatiel spews a stream of lava, swim up it and jump onto its head.
  2. Faster rounds: The lava path zigzags next time and comes in short bursts in the last round, so hop from one stretch to the next.

SpewartThe poison-spitting Broodal

  1. Rematch: Spewart steals the stew and fights in a longer arena with the same poison pattern: clear a path, knock off his hat and stomp him.
