What each player can do here

P1 · Mario
  • Mario: all the running, jumping and captures. There are no lives; when Mario is defeated he drops 10 coins and goes back into the level.
P2 · Cappy
  • Cappy: flies freely but only within a set range of Mario, jumps and ground-pounds on its own, clears hazards off the ground, and can give Mario about a second of float once per jump.
  • Until Player 2 presses a button, Cappy simply hovers above Mario's head, and it keeps moving even while Mario is inside a capture.
  • Start two-player from the + menu under Two Players; pressing left on the directional buttons swaps who plays Mario.one guide

If your skill levels differ: The newer player takes Cappy: it cannot get lost, because it stays within range of Mario and simply rides on his head until moved. The Cappy player's clearest way to help is the float boost, once per jump. How to split the roles

The desert

Part 1 of 1. Earn enough Moons to leave.

  1. BothThe Odyssey needs 16 Power Moons from the Sand Kingdom before it can fly on.
  2. BothStory order: the top of the tower in Tostarena Ruins, gathering Moon Shards out at the Moe-Eye Habitat, Hariet on top of the Inverted Pyramid, and at night the hole under the pyramid that leads to Knucklotec.

Boss

HarietThe bomb-throwing Broodal

  1. Big bomb: Hariet tosses spiked bombs from her hair. When she slams a big one into the ground, hit it with Cappy so it swings back and knocks off her hat, then stomp her.

KnucklotecThe stone guardian

  1. Fists: His two giant fists slam down on you. Get a fist to punch one of the ice chunks so it is stunned, capture it with Cappy, and fly it into his face.
  2. Clapping hands: In later rounds his hands rocket in from far away or close in from both sides; long-jump clear as soon as they stop moving.
