What each player can do here
- Gatherer: cuts wood and digs iron, carries it all to Storage (the Crafter draws from there on its own) and takes the bucket when the engine is getting dry.
- Track layer: lifts track off the Crafter and puts it down ahead of the train; between loads, opens the route and keeps an eye out for hazards.
If your skill levels differ: Blueprinted's two-player split gives one player gathering and water and the other track and hazards, and says both drop everything to lay track when the train is about to run out. The free Toy Engine restarts you at the last station after a crash, which suits learning a new biome. Our suggestionWhen skill levels differ: the steadier player takes track, since a missed rail ends the run. How to split the roles
Junctions and bosses
Part 1 of 3. How you leave a biome.
- BothAfter at least two stations in a biome, a Biome Junction Station opens. It costs 10 bolts, and choosing it starts that biome's boss fight.
- BothComing back to a biome in the same run, the junction needs four stations plus one for each biome you have repeated.single source
- BothBiomes sit on layers. Monorail Meadows comes first; next you pick Boxcar Bayou or Cargo Canyon; after that Island Interchange or Loco Labyrinth; and last of the four, Boiler Badlands.single source
- BothBoiler Badlands leads back round to the Meadows, and a run can start in any biome you have already reached.single source
- BothBeat any five of the six biome bosses in one run and every junction after that offers UnRailD HQ, which ends the run with the credits.single source
- BothBoss levels run the train much slower than normal levels, so the pressure is on handling the boss, not on speed.
Splitting the work for two
Part 2 of 3. One gathers and waters, one lays track.
- GathererThe gatherer chops and mines into Storage and waters the engine; the track layer collects track, lays it and clears the path.single source
- BothWhen the train is nearly out of track, both of you stop what you are doing and lay track.single source
Other modes
Part 3 of 3. What else the game offers.
- BothClassic uses the new biomes with no bosses and no player upgrades, closest to the first game.
- BothTime Attack gives the team 20 minutes to get as far as it can.
- BothVersus pits two teams of up to four against each other.
Extras and notes
- Sandbox unlocks only after three boss wins.one guide
