What each player can do here
- Gatherer: cuts wood and digs iron, carries it all to Storage (the Crafter draws from there on its own) and takes the bucket when the engine is getting dry.
- Track layer: lifts track off the Crafter and puts it down ahead of the train; between loads, opens the route and keeps an eye out for hazards.
If your skill levels differ: Blueprinted's two-player split gives one player gathering and water and the other track and hazards, and says both drop everything to lay track when the train is about to run out. The free Toy Engine restarts you at the last station after a crash, which suits learning a new biome. Our suggestionWhen skill levels differ: the steadier player takes track, since a missed rail ends the run. How to split the roles
Water shrines and lava
Part 1 of 3. Every drop comes from a shrine.
- GathererThere is no water in this biome: fill the bucket by standing next to a Water Shrine.
- GathererDash beside a shrine to push it one tile. Pushed into lava, it turns the whole pool walkable and is used up, so always keep one for refills.
- BothA bucket of water on a single lava tile makes that tile walkable.
- GathererBlueprinted suggests arriving with a full Tank wagon.single source
Waste slimes and junk golems
Part 2 of 3. Keep the track away from slime pits.
- Track layerIf the track runs near a waste slime's lava pit, the slime goes for the train and lights the closest wagon; striking a slime turns it into two, so steer the route clear of their pits.
- BothJunk golems are very tough and fire torpedoes; each one holds its torpedo for a second without turning, so step aside. A torpedo can go through several players in a row.
- GathererWaste slime milk gives five Bucket stacks.
Boss: Torpeboss
Part 3 of 3. Plan the route, use shrines as cover.
- BothIron is found only along the map's top edge and wood only along its bottom edge, with little of either: plan the route instead of looping.
- GathererPark a Water Shrine between you and the boss as a shield against torpedoes; dash next to it to drag it along.
Boss
TorpebossBadlands boss
- Torpedoes: Fires a steady barrage of torpedoes at the players.
- Lava: Throws lava pits onto the ground in front of your track.
- Homing: It also fires purple homing missiles that turn slowly toward a player.
- The sources differ on pace: Blueprinted says building far ahead makes it throw more lava and advises keeping the line short, while a 2024 Steam guide says to go fast and lay as much track ahead as you can.
