What each player can do here

P1 · Resident Representative
  • Talks to Tom Nook to start and finish each island project; only this player moves the story on.
P2 · Second resident
  • Gathers materials and crafts furniture for the projects, which the Representative then hands in.

If your skill levels differ: Decide before anyone starts the game who should be Representative: usually the player who will play most often, since every project waits for them. How to split the roles

The Resident Representative

Part 1 of 2. Know what only the first player can do.

  1. Resident RepresentativeWhoever arrives on the island first becomes Resident Representative, and only they can advance the story; later residents help by gathering materials and furniture.
  2. Resident RepresentativeOnly the Representative can build bridges and make the big island-changing choices, such as moving houses or placing villager plots.
  3. Second residentEvery other resident gets a house of their own.

Good to know

  • The Representative is fixed to the island: changing it means deleting the island's save data, so choose before the first player starts.

How the second resident helps

Part 2 of 2. Turn a second player into faster progress.

  1. Second residentThe second resident cannot push the story forward, but can gather the materials and furniture each project needs.
  2. BothItems a follower gathers in Party Play wait in the recycle box at Resident Services, where any player can take them out.
