What each player can do here
- Player 1 is Donkey Kong: punch, climb and dig through the terrain, tear off chunks to throw, and do all the platforming while Pauline rides along.
- Pauline's singing turns DK into his Bananza forms, each learned from an Elder in one of the layers.
- Player 2 is Pauline, riding on DK's shoulder. Aim and fire vocal blasts at enemies and walls (Joy-Con 2 mouse controls or motion aiming), and copy nearby terrain to power up the blasts.
- A second player can join with a shared Joy-Con, or from another Switch 2 (even a Switch 1) through GameShare with one copy of the game.
If your skill levels differ: DK handles every jump, and Pauline's job is aiming her blasts (and copying terrain to power them up), with motion or stick aiming. For an easier run overall, Assist Mode adds path guidance, aim assist, reduced damage and health that refills. Our suggestionGive the newer player Pauline. How to split the roles
Grumpy Kong in the King Crockoid (boss)
Part 1 of 3. Beat Grumpy Kong for the key to Sublayer 301.
- BothGrumpy Kong rides a giant skeleton: stone base and weapon, concrete torso, and Grumpy in a metal shell on top of the head.
- BothBreak the lower layers; the metal part falls with Grumpy dazed and exposed, so climb up and hit him.
- BothAt half health he spins his pickaxe around him, so back off until he stops.
- BothBeaten, he hands over a key for the Void Stake that blocks Sublayer 301.single source
Mad Mixer (boss)
Part 2 of 3. Shut down the refinery mixer.
- BothRide the mine cart around the track, grab Boom Rocks along the way and throw them at the machine; jump the lasers it fires along the rail.
- BothConcrete walls shield it; break them, though it slowly rebuilds them.
Stompenclomper (boss)
Part 3 of 3. Beat the giant Stompoid and leave the canyon.
- BothBreak both of its feet first: that brings it down, and then you can go after the golden core.
- BothWatch the floor for the target marks of its stomps and step away.single source
