The path splits at The Divide; the icy Freezer Layer brings the Zebra Bananza and two bosses.

What each player can do here

P1 · Donkey Kong
  • Player 1 is Donkey Kong: punch, climb and dig through the terrain, tear off chunks to throw, and do all the platforming while Pauline rides along.
  • Pauline's singing turns DK into his Bananza forms, each learned from an Elder in one of the layers.
P2 · Pauline
  • Player 2 is Pauline, riding on DK's shoulder. Aim and fire vocal blasts at enemies and walls (Joy-Con 2 mouse controls or motion aiming), and copy nearby terrain to power up the blasts.
  • A second player can join with a shared Joy-Con, or from another Switch 2 (even a Switch 1) through GameShare with one copy of the game.

If your skill levels differ: DK handles every jump, and Pauline's job is aiming her blasts (and copying terrain to power them up), with motion or stick aiming. The Divide

Part 1 of 4. Choose a path.

Zebra Elder

Part 2 of 4. Learn the Zebra Bananza.

  1. BothThe Zebra Elder here teaches the Zebra Bananza: faster dashes and running across thin ice that would break under normal DK.

Poppy Kong (boss)

Part 3 of 4. Beat Poppy Kong in the Cooling Tower.

  1. BothPoppy goes invisible. Watch the snow to see where she is, then stun her with the Zebra Bananza; a stun breaks her invisibility and leaves her open.
  2. BothWhen her health runs out she gives up and hands over the key to go on.

Inflammonite (boss)

Part 4 of 4. Beat the lava snail and move on.

  1. BothInflammonite is coated in magma. Let it chase you so it crashes into the walls: after enough misses (IGN counts three), snow and ice come down on it and cool the shell.
  2. BothCooled magma can be smashed, exposing its real body; then hit it.
  3. BothBeaten, it opens the way to the next layer.

Boss

Poppy KongThe first boss

  1. Invisible: Track her in the snow, stun her, then hit her while she is dazed.

InflammoniteThe second boss

  1. Magma shell: Make it crash into the walls until falling snow and ice cool it, then smash the shell and hit it.
