What each player can do here
- Kirby: copies abilities and throws Friend Hearts at enemies to turn them into friends, for a party of up to four.
- A friend: a new player presses a button on a connected controller, and the friend appears with Kirby's current ability. Players can drop in or out at any time; empty seats are filled by computer-controlled friends.
- Friend Abilities: the player with a weapon ability raises it, and a player with an element (fire, ice, water, wind, electricity) hits it to power it up.
If your skill levels differ: Kirby builds the party with Friend Hearts, so the steadier player usually takes Kirby. A newer player can join as a friend for one stage and leave whenever they like, since anyone can drop in or out at any time. How to split the roles
The stages
Part 1 of 3. Clear the stages and both boss fights.
- BothFive main stages, from Green Gardens to Clash at Castle Dedede, plus the extra stage Extra Eclair; Whispy Woods guards Fruity Forest.
- BothPressing the Big Switch in Donut Dome makes Bandana Waddle Dee available as a Dream Friend; Dream Friends are called with the Dream Rod in a Dream Palace.single source
Fruity Forest: Whispy Woods
Part 2 of 3. Beat the possessed tree.
- BothWhispy is weak to fire. Gameranx suggests Yo-Yo with fire added; if everyone hits him with fire attacks at once in the second phase, he catches fire and keeps taking damage.
- BothIn the second phase he shakes loose a flood of apples. A Chumbrella shelters anyone under it.
- BothHe also hops into the middle of the arena, which can split the team onto two sides, and spits purple puffs that cannot be knocked away, so dodge them.
Clash at Castle Dedede: King Dedede
Part 3 of 3. Beat King Dedede.
- BothThe fight has two parts. The first is a familiar hammer fight: keep attacking between his hammer swings, slides and jumps.
- BothOnce he has lost enough health his hammer is gone and he fights with huge arms, smashing the floor twice and dropping everyone to a lower level with pillars that separate the team.
- BothBreak the bottoms of the pillars: that reunites the team, and IGN notes it trips him so he is stuck for a moment. His final ground-pound also leaves his arms stuck in the floor. Pile on in both windows.
Boss
Whispy WoodsThe forest boss
- First phase: Drops apples, spits air puffs and tries to inhale the team.
- Second phase: A storm of falling apples, a jump into the middle of the arena and purple air puffs.
King DededeThe castle boss
- Hammer: His usual hammer fight: hammer swings, slides, jumps and an inhale.
- Giant arms: Smashes through two floors, swings between pillars and ends by pounding the ground until his arms get stuck.
Extras and notes
- A fake set of credits rolls after Dedede; the adventure continues.
