What each player can do here
- Mario, Luigi or a Toad: the standard heroes, who get the full effect of every power-up, including the gliding Super Acorn.
- Toadette can take this seat too: the Super Crown turns her into Peachette, who floats, double-jumps and bounces back once out of a pit before landing again.
- Nabbit: enemy attacks never hurt him and his courses start with 100 extra seconds, but power-ups do nothing for him, and pits, lava, poison or getting crushed still cost a life.
- Either player can tuck into a bubble during multiplayer and float along until ready to rejoin; Deluxe uses two buttons held together for this.one guide
If your skill levels differ: Nintendo made Nabbit and Toadette for younger and less experienced players, so the newer player takes one of them. Nabbit ignores enemy hits, which means that seat mostly fails on pits and lava; the more confident player takes Mario, Luigi or a Toad and grabs the power-ups. How to split the roles
The courses
Part 1 of 3. Clear the world's nine courses.
- BothNine courses: six regular ones, a secret course, the tower and Morton's castle.
- BothAfter Morton the map forks: you pick Sparkling Waters or Frosted Glacier next, and you only need to finish one of them to reach Soda Jungle.
Stoneslide Tower
Part 2 of 3. Climb the tower and beat Boom Boom.
- BothSpin on the wooden screws to slide the big stone blocks; one of them can be pushed over a row of Dry Bones to clear the way.
Morton's Compactor Castle
Part 3 of 3. Cross the crushing blocks and beat Morton.
- BothStone blocks slide back and forth over the lava and can squash you; move through when the gap opens.
- BothWhen Morton slams the floor, be in the air: the shockwave stuns anyone standing on the ground.
Boss
Boom BoomThe tower boss
- Spin jump: A Magikoopa gives him a spinning jump. The spin is gone after your first stomp, and three stomps win.
Morton Koopa Jr.The castle boss
- Big Pokey: Morton slams the floor to raise a Big Pokey, then bats its pieces at you with his hammer, either straight or in an arc. Stand near the platform's edge to have room to dodge.
- Stomps: Once the Pokey is used up, go for his head. Three stomps beat him.
