What each player can do here

P1 · Mario
  • Player 1 is Mario: explores the islands, collects the Cat Shines and becomes Giga Cat Mario for the big fights.
P2 · Bowser Jr.
  • Player 2 is Bowser Jr.: attacks with his paintbrush and a clown-car slam, paints in graffiti to get Mario extra power-ups, and stores power-ups for him.

If your skill levels differ: Nintendo describes Bowser Jr. as the helper who attacks enemies and stores power-ups, the lighter job; Mario does all the platforming, so the more experienced player usually takes Mario. How to split the roles

Cat Shines

Part 1 of 2. Reach 15 and then 20 Cat Shines.

  1. BothBeating him once raises the Ruins and its Giga Bell. The bells now need 15 Cat Shines, and after the next fight 20.

Where people tend to fall

  • Every few minutes Fury Bowser rises and rampages: it rains, spikes fall and he fires beams across the lake. Walls and island cover protect you.

Second Fury Bowser fight

Part 2 of 2. Beat Fury Bowser twice more.

  1. MarioSpikes rain around you: grab one and throw it at him when he spins in, then ground-pound him.
  2. MarioAt half health he retreats; you finish the fight once you have 20 Cat Shines.

Where people tend to fall

  • His new move is a spinning shell charge. The walls of Clawswipe Colosseum stop it, so shelter inside until he stops spinning.

  1. Second fight: Shelter from the shell charge, throw spikes back, ground-pound. It takes two rounds.
