What each player can do here

P1 · Mario
  • Mario: all the running, jumping and captures. There are no lives; when Mario is defeated he drops 10 coins and goes back into the level.
P2 · Cappy
  • Cappy: flies freely but only within a set range of Mario, jumps and ground-pounds on its own, clears hazards off the ground, and can give Mario about a second of float once per jump.
  • Until Player 2 presses a button, Cappy simply hovers above Mario's head, and it keeps moving even while Mario is inside a capture.

If your skill levels differ: The newer player takes Cappy: it cannot get lost, because it stays within range of Mario and simply rides on his head until moved. The Cappy player's clearest way to help is the float boost, once per jump. How to split the roles

The castle

Part 1 of 1. Earn enough Moons to reach the Moon.

  1. BothThe Odyssey needs 8 Power Moons from Bowser's Kingdom before it can fly on.
  2. BothStory order: the Stairface Ogre in the third courtyard, the Moon Shards in the second courtyard, Topper and Hariet at the main courtyard, then RoboBrood at the keep.

Boss

Topper and HarietTwo Broodals

  1. Topper: Topper is back with a much taller stack of hats; strip them with Cappy and stomp him three times.
  2. Hariet: Hariet now has two braids and throws two bombs at once; bat the big bombs back into her with Cappy as before.

RoboBroodThe Broodals' robot

  1. Pokio: Capture the Pokio bird it fires, then peck at the legs or bat its bombs back until it topples, and attack the Broodal in the exposed dome.
