What each player can do here

P1 · Gatherer
  • Gatherer: holds the axe or the pickaxe, carries wood and iron to the Storage wagon, and grabs the bucket when the engine runs hot.
P2 · Track layer
  • Track layer: takes finished track off the Crafter, lays it ahead of the train, clears the path when no track is ready and deals with the creatures.

If your skill levels differ: The wiki and Blueprinted both say only one player should lay track, and a lower difficulty means more resources and less unbreakable rock. Our suggestionWhen skill levels differ: give track laying to the steadier player, and let the newer player own one tool and keep resources coming. How to split the roles

The loop

Part 1 of 4. Keep track ahead of a train that never stops.

  1. GathererChop trees with the axe for wood and mine rock with the pickaxe for iron; both go into the Storage wagon, and the Crafter turns them into track.
  2. BothThere is only one tool of each kind: while one player holds the axe, nobody else can chop. The bucket is the same.
  3. Track layerTake track off the Crafter and lay it in front of the train. If the train reaches the end of the line, it crashes and the run is over.
  4. GathererFill the bucket at any water and empty it over the engine or the Tank wagon; once the tank turns fully red the train catches fire.

Speed, stations and engines

Part 2 of 4. What changes the train's pace and what the bolts buy.

  1. Track layerThe more track lies ahead of the train, the faster it goes; with three or fewer pieces laid it runs at its slowest, so a short line buys time.
  2. BothEach station is a shop: spend bolts on new wagons, wagon upgrades or a new engine.
  3. BothA new engine costs four bolts, takes the train to the next biome, resets its speed and adds a wagon slot.
  4. BothEvery biome hides one orange special bolt, worth two, in its third section; you need all of them to reach the Final biome.

Splitting the work for two

Part 3 of 4. One player lays track, the other keeps the materials and water coming.

  1. Track layerOnly one player lays track. Two layers at once can double-place rails and derail the train.
  2. GathererThe gatherer chops and mines, fills Storage, and cools the engine when the heat bar climbs.single source
  3. BothClear the route at least two tiles wide so both of you can walk beside the train without blocking each other.single source

Modes and difficulty

Part 4 of 4. Where the biomes come from and what difficulty changes.

  1. BothThere are five modes: Endless, Versus, Quick, Sandbox and Time. The biome pages here follow Endless, which starts in the Plains.
  2. BothDifficulty sets how scarce resources are and how much unbreakable black rock the map has; the train's speed stays the same.
