What each player can do here

P1 · Defuser
  • The only seat that sees the bomb. Turns it, reads out what is on each module and does the cutting, pressing and holding.
P2 · Expert
  • Holds the Bomb Defusal Manual and never sees the bomb; works out from the manual what the Defuser has to do and tells them.

If your skill levels differ: The First Bomb uses only these three modules. Our suggestionFor a first session: the Defuser describes without guessing at the answer, and the Expert repeats the description back before giving an order. How to split the roles

Wires

Part 1 of 3. One wire, and only one, gets cut.

  1. DefuserCount the wires (between three and six) and name their colours from the top one down.
  2. ExpertThe Expert goes to the rules for that number of wires. Some of them depend on whether the serial number ends in an odd digit, so keep it at hand.
  3. DefuserCut exactly the wire the Expert names, counting from the top; one correct cut finishes the module.

The Button

Part 2 of 3. Press and release, or hold and wait.

  1. DefuserSay the button's colour and the word written on it.
  2. ExpertThe Expert's decision also uses the battery count and certain lit indicators, then comes back as either a quick tap or a hold.
  3. BothOn a hold, a coloured strip lights up to the right of the button. Name its colour; the Expert says which digit must show on the timer when you let go.

Keypads

Part 3 of 3. Four symbols, pressed in the right order.

  1. DefuserDescribe the four symbols on the keys, one by one.
  2. ExpertThe Expert finds the single column that holds all four, then reads them out from top to bottom: that is the order to press.

Good to know

  • The wiki gives each symbol a name (copyright sign, black star, Greek capital omega and so on), which helps two players settle on the same words.
