What each player can do here

P1 · Defuser
  • The only seat that sees the bomb. Turns it, reads out what is on each module and does the cutting, pressing and holding.
P2 · Expert
  • Holds the Bomb Defusal Manual and never sees the bomb; works out from the manual what the Defuser has to do and tells them.

If your skill levels differ: Venting Gas and Capacitor Discharge are one action each on the Defuser's side; Knobs needs the Expert. Our suggestionThe Defuser checks the needy timers between regular modules and calls them out. How to split the roles

How needy modules work

Part 1 of 4. Small timers that keep coming back.

  1. DefuserA needy module has a small two-digit timer at the top centre. It switches on from time to time and must be dealt with before that timer runs out, or the bomb takes a strike.
  2. BothNeedy modules never count as finished; they shut off once every regular module is done.

Venting Gas

Part 2 of 4. Answer the prompt.

  1. DefuserRead the question on the small screen out loud (usually VENT GAS?, sometimes DETONATE?) and answer it with the Y or N key.

Capacitor Discharge

Part 3 of 4. Keep the bar from filling.

  1. DefuserHold the lever down to drain the bar before it fills.

Knobs

Part 4 of 4. Set the knob before its timer hits zero.

  1. DefuserDescribe which of the twelve LEDs are lit.
  2. BothThe Expert matches the pattern to up, down, left or right. Positions count from the UP label, which may have turned, and the knob must sit there when its timer reaches zero.
