What each player can do here
- Kirby: the only one who copies abilities and uses Mouthful Mode. If Kirby goes down, both of you go back to the last checkpoint.
- Bandana Waddle Dee fights with a spear: quick thrusts, a throw aimed with the stick, and a charged spin that lifts him into the air. He cannot float, but he can jump several times in mid-air.
- He never copies abilities, but his spear hits harder while Kirby holds a stronger Copy Ability. In some Mouthful Modes, such as the car, he rides on top of Kirby and keeps throwing spears.
If your skill levels differ: Give Kirby to the more confident player: only Kirby gets Copy Abilities and Mouthful Mode, and a knocked-out Kirby sends you both back to the checkpoint, while a knocked-out Bandana Waddle Dee can be brought back. Spring-Breeze Mode gives both characters more health and makes enemies easier, and you can change the mode outside a stage. How to split the roles
Reaching the boss
Part 1 of 2. Rescue enough Waddle Dees to open The Tropical Terror.
- BothThe Tropical Terror opens after you have rescued 19 Waddle Dees in Everbay Coast.
- KirbyRing, Pipe, Scissor-Lift and Arch Mouth show up here; none of them appear in Natural Plains.single source
- BothBlueprints for Clutter Needle (Scale the Cement Summit) and Chain Bomb (Fast-Flowing Waterworks) are in this level.single source
The Tropical Terror
Part 2 of 2. Beat Tropic Woods.
- KirbyKirby can take Needle, Cutter or Fire before the cliff. IGN rates Cutter the easiest because Kirby can throw it while moving and hit and run.single source
- BothCoconuts drop from the canopy. Watch the ground for their shadows and stay off them; a coconut explodes after a few seconds or when touched.
- BothIn the second half the breath attack becomes a wave of air puffs sweeping across the whole arena, so running away from it no longer works.
- BothAlso in the second half, a fence rises in front of the trunk and roots snake out to box you in. Attacks against the fence bounce off; hit the roots to clear them or wait for them to pull back.
Where people tend to fall
- Neither the fence nor the roots stop the sweeping air wave, so do not try to hide behind them.
- The stars in bubbles left by its attacks can be inhaled and spat back at the tree; that is how the no-ability mission is done.
Boss
Tropic WoodsThe Everbay Coast boss
- First half: Stays rooted in place, drops exploding coconuts and spits puffs of air.
- Second half (50% health): Breathes a long sweeping wave of air, raises a metal fence to guard its trunk and sends roots through the ground around you.
Extras and notes
- Beating Tropic Woods gives the Noble Ranger blueprint. Missions: destroy the roots, clear without a Copy Ability, clear within 2:00, and clear without damage.
