What each player can do here

P1 · Kirby
  • Kirby: the only one who copies abilities and uses Mouthful Mode. If Kirby goes down, both of you go back to the last checkpoint.
P2 · Bandana Waddle Dee
  • Bandana Waddle Dee fights with a spear: quick thrusts, a throw aimed with the stick, and a charged spin that lifts him into the air. He cannot float, but he can jump several times in mid-air.
  • He never copies abilities, but his spear hits harder while Kirby holds a stronger Copy Ability. In some Mouthful Modes, such as the car, he rides on top of Kirby and keeps throwing spears.

If your skill levels differ: Give Kirby to the more confident player: only Kirby gets Copy Abilities and Mouthful Mode, and a knocked-out Kirby sends you both back to the checkpoint, while a knocked-out Bandana Waddle Dee can be brought back. Spring-Breeze Mode gives both characters more health and makes enemies easier, and you can change the mode outside a stage. How to split the roles

Reaching the boss

Part 1 of 2. Rescue enough Waddle Dees to open An Unexpected Beast King.

  1. BothAn Unexpected Beast King opens after you have rescued 23 Waddle Dees in Winter Horns.
  2. BothThe Battle of Blizzard Bridge is a run of mid-boss fights (Fleurina, Wild Bonkers, Wild Edge and Wild Frosty) and also hides the Frosty Ice blueprint.single source
  3. BothIts last fight is two Wild Frosty at once. They share one health bar on screen but each has its own, so focus one down first.single source

An Unexpected Beast King

Part 2 of 2. Beat King Dedede.

  1. KirbyFire, Ice, Drill and Cutter are on offer at the foot of the stairs, along with a Maxim Tomato on the way up.
  2. BothMost of his first-half moves (hammer swings, a sliding rush and big jumps that send out shockwaves) can be avoided by keeping your distance and moving at the right time.
  3. KirbyAt 40% health he falls and drops his hammer. Kirby can drop the current ability and inhale the hammer within a few seconds to get Hammer (a mission); the old ability is still lying in the arena afterwards.
  4. BothIn the second half he swings a huge stone pillar. Its slams crack the floor and icicles burst out of the cracks, so stand where there are no cracks and keep running when the pillar comes down.

Where people tend to fall

  • Hover over his body slam to avoid the shockwave; his shadow shows where he will land.
  • With Drill, Kirby can dig under his rushing slam and the sideways pillar swing, but not the overhead one.

Boss

King DededeThe Winter Horns boss

  1. Hammer: Hammer attacks, a sliding rush and leaping slams whose landings send out shockwaves.
  2. Stone pillar (below 40%): Drops the hammer for a giant pillar with much longer reach; slams open icy cracks in the floor.
  • IGN suggests Dragon Fire (blueprint in Windy, Freezing Seas) for the 1:30 mission: high damage, long reach, and it sets him on fire.

Extras and notes

  • Beating him gives the Homing Bomb blueprint; grab it before you open the cage. Missions: inhale his hammer, no guarding, clear within 1:30, no damage.
