What each player can do here
- Aloy and her bow from the start; Varl (spear), Teersa (bombs) and Erend (hammer) join as the story unlocks them. Heroes only gain levels while you play them.
- The same heroes to pick from. The camera is shared, with no split screen, and if you drift too far behind the game pulls you back to your partner. Until Rost dies early in the story, the second player can play as him.
If your skill levels differ: A fall costs nothing, since a broken hero just rebuilds; only losing every heart in a fight sends you back to the start of that section. Our suggestionFor a mixed pair: Story difficulty or the Player Invulnerability option. PowerPyx says no trophy depends on difficulty, and PSNProfiles recommends exactly that setup. How to split the roles
The story levels
Part 1 of 2. Track down the Thunderjaw.
- BothChapter 2 has six levels in the Snowchant Mountains, each worth a Gold Brick.
- BothThe levels: (1) Cold Calling, (2) The Hills Are Alive, (3) Frosted Peaks, (4) The Shivering Summit, (5) A Towering Achievement, (6) The Belly of the Beast.
- BothThe Thunderjaw ate one of the metal flowers; you put up Signal Towers on high ground to follow it.
- BothFinish The Shivering Summit to unlock Erend, who fights up close with a big hammer.
Thunderjaw (Cauldron boss)
Part 2 of 2. Shock the Thunderjaw, then break its legs.
- BothThe trail ends in a Cauldron in the mountains, with the Thunderjaw at the far end.
- BothYour shots barely hurt it at first. Grab an electrified barrel from the moving lifts at the far left or right and throw it into the terminal on a pillar to shock it.single source
- BothCultists keep joining the fight; clear them fast so they do not cut your barrel runs short.single source
- BothIn the second phase you share its platform: hit a leg until it falls, then aim for the two weak points on its head, and back off as it gets up.single source
Where people tend to fall
- Hardcore Gamer's tip for the Shell-Walker, another new machine here: its ice shield blocks shots from the front, so aim for the hinges of the pod on its back.

ThunderjawThe Cauldron boss
- Phase 1: From a separate platform it fires projectiles, lashes out with swipes and its tail, and calls in cultists, while barrels ride lifts on both sides of you.single source
- Phase 2: On the same platform, faster shots and area attacks; downing it by the legs opens its head.single source
