What each player can do here

P1 · Player 1
  • Leads the Rescue Officer, Oatchi and the Pikmin squad: every Pikmin throw, whistle and order is Player 1's.
P2 · Player 2
  • Aims the Pebble Pitcher, an on-screen pointer: pebbles to hit creatures and speed up carriers, plus items earned from the co-op gauge.

If your skill levels differ: Nintendo pitches the Pebble Pitcher seat for someone not ready to lead the squad: the newer player supports with the pointer while the more experienced one runs Player 1. Since update 1.1.0 a Relaxed setting also stops creatures from attacking unless you hit them first. How to split the roles

Part 1 of 5. Clear the first Arcadia caves.

Part 2 of 5. Get through the dark cave.

  • IGN says the Headlamp is needed here; Pikipedia recommends it but calls it optional. Buy it first to be safe.

Kingdom of Beasts

Part 3 of 5. Rescue Yonny and beat the Bulblaxes.

  1. BothRock Pikmin are found in this cave and break its crystal walls.
  2. BothSublevel 3 holds a rolling Empress Bulblax: fight it with Rock Pikmin, which it cannot crush.
  3. BothThe Bulblax drops Yonny the doctor, whose rescue unlocks Night Expeditions.
  4. BothThe last sublevel holds two Emperor Bulblaxes; beating both lowers the gate, and one of them gives up a castaway.

Where people tend to fall

  • IGN's way through: bait an Emperor into flicking its tongue, then throw a bomb at it and rush in while it is stunned.
  • Pikipedia warns that the first Emperor to wake screeches and wakes the other.

Part 4 of 5. Beat the Foolix.

Night Expeditions

Part 5 of 5. Protect the Lumiknoll until dawn.

  1. BothRescued leaflings can only be cured with glow sap, which a Lumiknoll gives out at dawn if it survives the night.
  2. BothWin by wiping out every creature or by lasting until dawn; a destroyed Lumiknoll ends the night at once.
  3. BothGlow Pikmin fight for you at night and can be called into caves with Glow Seeds.
  4. BothSome sites have two Lumiknolls to defend.

Where people tend to fall

  • With two Lumiknolls, split the defence: Oatchi guards one while the Rescue Officer covers the other.
  • Glow Pikmin cannot be used outdoors in daylight.

Boss

Empress BulblaxThe sublevel 3 boss

  1. Rolling: It rolls from side to side to crush Pikmin; Rock Pikmin survive the hits and stay on.
  • Pikmin it rolls over get stuck; whistle them free, then send them back in.

FoolixThe Secluded Courtyard boss

  1. Engulf: It pulls Pikmin, Oatchi and possibly the Rescue Officer into its jelly body, where captured Pikmin are digested.
  2. Freeze: Ice Pikmin or an Ice Blast freeze it, opening it up to a rush from Oatchi.
  • Its weak point is the tail of its nucleus: pull it with about fifteen Pikmin and the body bursts open.
