What each player can do here

P1 · Player 1
  • Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy or a Toad: grabs the power-ups, takes the hits, and can bring a fallen partner back by touching their ghost before it fades.
P2 · Player 2
  • Yoshi or Nabbit: no damage from enemies, but no power-ups either. A Yoshi can carry a partner on its back.

If your skill levels differ: Give the newer player Yoshi or Nabbit: Nintendo recommends them for players just starting out because enemies do not hurt them. The trade-off is that they never transform with power-ups. How to split the roles

The castle

Part 1 of 2. Reach the final battle.

  1. BothOnce you hold six Royal Seeds, the castle opens: four courses lead up to the final battle.

The final battle

Part 2 of 2. Beat Bowser on top of his castle.

  1. BothEverything here works on the beat. The Talking Flowers count you in; jump on the cue so the bouncing platform launches you up.
  2. BothUse that launch to hit the ! switch under his chin, and break his floating hands the same way when they get in the way.
  3. BothAfter two hits he sends fiery Piranha Plants of all sizes; run to the left, then jump on the beat to clear the big ones. The wave starts again later in the fight.
  4. BothThe stage then splits into separate platforms and his hands guard the switch; break the hands on the beat first.
  5. BothIn the last stretch a switch is exposed on top of his head: climb the extra platforms and jump on it.

Where people tend to fall

  • Turn the volume up: the rhythm is the cue for every jump.

Boss

Castle BowserThe final boss

  1. Opening: Jump on the beat to reach the switch under his chin.
  2. Piranha wave: Clear the fiery Piranha Plants with beat-timed jumps.
  3. Split stage: Break the guarding hands, then hit the switch.
  4. The top: Climb to the switch on his head and stomp it.

Achievements and extras

  • The final battle has no Wonder Seeds to collect.
  • If someone loses a life, the others can touch their floating ghost before the timer runs out to bring them back without losing a life.
