What each player can do here

P1 · Gatherer
  • Gatherer: cuts wood and digs iron, carries it all to Storage (the Crafter draws from there on its own) and takes the bucket when the engine is getting dry.
P2 · Track layer
  • Track layer: lifts track off the Crafter and puts it down ahead of the train; between loads, opens the route and keeps an eye out for hazards.

If your skill levels differ: Blueprinted's two-player split gives one player gathering and water and the other track and hazards, and says both drop everything to lay track when the train is about to run out. The free Toy Engine restarts you at the last station after a crash, which suits learning a new biome. Our suggestionWhen skill levels differ: the steadier player takes track, since a missed rail ends the run. How to split the roles

Canyon walls and sandworms

Part 1 of 2. Walk, don't dash.

  1. BothAll terrain can be mined here, though canyon walls take many tool hits; a Torpedo wagon breaks them at once.
  2. BothDashing, or the Power Stomp cartridge, draws a sandworm to you; it soon bursts out of the ground and wrecks everything around its target.
  3. BothLure a worm into a wall on purpose to open a shortcut.
  4. GathererA nest stops worms appearing once destroyed: eighteen tool hits, six dynamite, one torpedo, or just one bucket of water. It counts as killing an animal.single source
  5. GathererCrocodile milk gives a Stacking buff, so you carry more at once.

Boss: Sandworm Supervisor

Part 2 of 2. A scouting fight.

  1. GathererScout ahead on foot; if the ground starts to shake beneath you, retreat at once.
  2. Track layerDon't lay track far ahead at the start; commit rails only to ground the scout has tested.
  3. BothFollow the ponds: they always connect to the safe path, so bridging from pond to pond finds it.single source

Where people tend to fall

  • Big open clearings and ground blasted open with dynamite can look safe and often are not.

Boss

  1. Rumble: Only one path to the station is safe, fixed when the level is made. Standing anywhere else makes the ground rumble, and the worm comes about 10 seconds later.
  2. Strike: It destroys the unsafe ground near where it surfaces and every rumbling tile anyone stood on. Players close by die; players further off on unsafe ground are moved to solid tiles.
