What each player can do here

P1 · Cody
  • A magnet with the red end: it pulls blue objects and pushes red ones.
P2 · May
  • A magnet with the blue end: it pulls red objects and pushes blue ones.

If your skill levels differ: You keep the same character for the whole game, so pick once: IGN's guide gives May most of the precise aiming, platforming and fighting from The Tree on, so the more experienced player usually takes May. How to split the roles

Warming Up

Part 1 of 4. Learn the magnets on blocks, bridges and a catapult, then skate to the village.

  1. BothKeep one rule in mind for the whole chapter: magnets of different colours attract, the same colour repels.
  2. BothMay pushes the wooden block up onto the ledge and Cody pulls it the rest of the way to him.
  3. BothAt the drawbridges, Cody pulls a bridge down for May, and May pushes the other one down for Cody.
  4. BothWork the saw in the tree back and forth between you until the tree falls.
  5. CodyAt the catapult, Cody pulls the basket down so May can climb in.
  6. BothSkate to the end of the section: steer with the left stick and boost with X or Square.

Winter Village

Part 2 of 4. Ring the bells in the three towers to break the ice over the town.

  1. BothThe ice only breaks when the bells ring. For the first one, Cody pulls the blue handle to raise a rock and May launches off it with her magnet to reach the bell.
  2. BothOpen the door in the town centre together.
  3. BothSecond tower: May runs in the big wheel while Cody rides the lift up, then Cody rings the bell.
  4. BothThird tower: Cody shoots a trail of red magnets with the magnet gun and May rides the rail along it to the bell.

Beneath the Ice

Part 3 of 4. Fix the machine under the lake and get the lighthouse working.

  1. BothAt the metal machine under water, each of you pulls the magnet of the other colour to open the door.
  2. BothTurn the three screws clockwise with the wrench. After each one an angler fish charges, so dash out of its way.
  3. BothAt the lighthouse, turn the key in the generator, climb to the top and press the two buttons together.

Where people tend to fall

  • The angler fish comes after you once each screw is tight; keep a dash ready.

Slippery Slopes

Part 4 of 4. Climb the mountain through the storm to the end of the chapter.

  1. BothFrom here your two magnets can pull together to break things; use that on the cabin to open its door after the race down the ice.
  2. BothWhen the wind picks up, hold on to the nearest X-shaped magnet of the opposite colour so the storm cannot blow you away.
  3. BothAt the end, both of you magnetise to each other from opposite sides at the same time.

Where people tend to fall

  • The wind on the last climb is strong enough to throw you off; let go of a magnet only when the gust stops.

Minigames in Snow Globe

Optional head-to-head games for the two of you; each counts toward the minigame achievement.

  • Icicle Throwing

    Where: Winter Village, by the left tower; ring that tower first.

    Score the most points in 60 seconds.

  • Shuffle Board

    Where: Winter Village: the cave under the middle tower, after its bell.

    Hold RT or R2 to launch your puck.

  • Snow Warfare

    Where: Winter Village: the Snowball Arena cave by the right tower, after its bell.

    Snowball fight; five hits and you lose.

  • Ice Race

    Where: Beneath the Ice: the starting line where you come up from the underwater station.

    Three laps on the ice; first over the line wins.

Achievements and extras

  • Mood Swing (the swing set near the first bell tower) and Lost and Found (return four baby turtles) are in Winter Village.
  • Something Fishy and Terror of the Seven Seas are near the Ice Race.
