Text card reading up to four players couch online or both, Xbox prints the split-screen label, out November 10

Four people can play, and they do not all need to be on the same sofa. Shrek 2 Remastered multiplayer takes up to four players on one console, online, or a mix of both, so the decision is simply how your four seats are split between rooms.

As of Oct 24, 2026: Xbox, Nintendo and Aspyr pages read that day; the game is not out yet. Our upcoming co-op calendar tracks the listings until release.

Key Takeaways

  • Four on one console. Xbox and Nintendo both list four.
  • Mixed co-op. Couch and online players in one session.
  • Split-screen label on Xbox. Nintendo has no screen field.
  • Nov 10. Switch, Switch 2 and Xbox list the same date.
  • $29.99 regular. Both stores showed a pre-order sale on Oct 24.

Shrek 2 Remastered multiplayer? (quick answer)

Yes, up to four. Aspyr's listing text sums it up: "Up to 4-player Couch Co-op, Online or Mixed: A cozy, team-based co-op action-adventure game, playable solo or up to 4-Player Couch Co-Op, Online Multiplayer, and Mixed Online Multiplayer & Couch Co-Op."

Four rows for Shrek 2 Remastered: Xbox local co-op 2-4 with the Shared/split screen label, Nintendo Single system 1-4, PlayStation and Steam not read, Aspyr couch online or mixed Chart: CouchCoopDesk, data from the Xbox and Nintendo listings and Aspyr, checked Oct 24.

Xbox prints its Shared/split screen label, which covers both split and shared screens. Nintendo prints a count only. Our split screen vs shared screen explainer covers the difference.

Overview

Aspyr publishes and develops it, per the Xbox store. Vice reports Aspyr announced it on October 20.

Desk note: Our upcoming calendar holds 13 co-op titles releasing in November 2026. 8 of them list four or more seats on one console, and Shrek 2 Remastered is one, along with Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered. November is a good month for a full sofa.

Bar chart of 13 November 2026 co-op releases in our calendar: 8 seat four or more on one console, 5 seat one to three Chart: CouchCoopDesk, data from the Nintendo and Xbox listings in our calendar, checked Oct 21.

Analysis

Mixed co-op is the unusual part. Vice explains it: "Mixed co-op: Combine couch co-op and online multiplayer for up to four players total." Two siblings on one Switch can join two cousins online in the same game.

GODEEPER: Four-seat picks for families, with each store's rating. Co-op games to play with kids

Solo still works. Aspyr's site says "Play solo or with up to three friends in co-op". Nintendo's Single system (1-4) starts at one.

Bar chart of Shrek 2 Remastered modes: four on the couch, four online, four in mixed couch and online play Chart: CouchCoopDesk, from Aspyr's site and the Nintendo listing, checked Oct 24.

The date has one wrinkle. GoNintendo's headline said Nov. 9, but Nintendo, Xbox and Vice all say November 10. Vice: "The Shrek 2 Remastered release date is Tuesday, November 10, 2026."

Price is the same on both stores we read. Xbox and Nintendo's Switch 2 listing show $29.99 regular; Vice reports "a standard US price of $29.99."

What players say

The game is not out yet, so there is no player quote about couch play to report. Search results on Oct 24 showed news coverage only. We will add a line after launch.

Our take

Wait for launch, then pick Shrek 2 Remastered for up to four, on one sofa or split across homes. Xbox and Nintendo list four on one console, and Aspyr's mixed mode joins couch and online players. $29.99 regular price.

If you need four seats tonight, our 4-player local games list has picks that are out now. We will re-check every store, including PlayStation and Steam, after Nov 10.

What we don't know yet

How the screen is divided for four couch players. Xbox's label covers split and shared screens, and Aspyr does not describe the layout. We also have not read the PlayStation or Steam listings.

How we checked this

We read the Xbox store page, both Nintendo listings and Aspyr's official site on Oct 24, along with Vice's and GoNintendo's announcement coverage. The game was not released on that date, so nothing here comes from play. We did not play Shrek 2 Remastered for this article.
