Game Pass Split Screen Games: 21 Carry the Xbox Label

Game Pass split screen games: 21 of the 34 couch picks in Microsoft's console list carry the Xbox Shared/split screen label. Seats and ratings for each.

TL;DR: 34 games in Microsoft's Game Pass "All Console Games" list show two or more players on one Xbox, and 21 of them carry the store's Shared/split screen label. Pick Minecraft for four mixed ages, Bluey: The Videogame for small kids, It Takes Two for a two-person story. Overcooked! 2 lists 2-4 seats without the label. Checked Oct 24, 2026.

Most Game Pass split screen games print the Xbox label, yet Overcooked! 2 does not. Before you scroll the catalog with two controllers in hand, decide how many seats you need: the couch games top out at 2, 4 or 8 on one Xbox.

As of Oct 24, 2026: Game Pass membership as Microsoft's console list showed it that day; player counts, labels and ratings as the Xbox store listed them on Oct 18, with all eight picks re-read Oct 24. Stores change listings; the Game Pass couch co-op list shows the latest check.

Verdict: Pick Minecraft if the sofa holds four of mixed ages. Pick It Takes Two if two adults want a campaign. Skip Halo: The Master Chief Collection for a three-person campaign night unless one sits out: co-op is 2 on one console. Store pages checked Oct 24.

Key Takeaways

  • 21 of 34 carry the label. The Xbox store prints Shared/split screen on 21 of the Game Pass couch games.
  • Four seats is the common ceiling. 22 games top out at four on one Xbox, 10 at two, and 2 at eight.
  • Family-friendly by default. 25 of the 34 are rated E or E10+.
  • Local play needs no tier. The store ties only online console multiplayer to a Game Pass tier.
  • One more is queued. Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School sits in Microsoft's "Coming to Game Pass" list with 2 seats and the label.

Overview

The selection rule is short. A game is here if Microsoft's Game Pass console list includes it on the day we read it, and the Xbox store lists two or more players on one console. That crosses two official sources: Microsoft's list, titled "All Console Games" and described as "every game included with XBOX Game Pass Console", and the Xbox store's own fields.

On Oct 24 that list held 623 games. 40 of them are in our database of 160 Xbox games, and 34 list local play for two or more. Those 34 are the pool.

Bar chart: 9 of 10 two-seat games, 10 of 22 four-seat games and 2 of 2 eight-seat games carry the Xbox Shared/split screen label Chart: CouchCoopDesk, data from the Xbox store and Microsoft's Game Pass list, checked Oct 24, 2026.

The label matters because it is the only screen field on the Xbox store. Our split screen vs shared screen explainer covers what it covers: the Xbox label means split-screen or one shared screen, and the store does not say which. A game without it can still put two people on one TV. The store just does not print it.

Desk note: On the same Xbox listing, Rocket League and Terraria each print two numbers. Local co-op reads 2-8; local multiplayer reads 2-4. We count the higher field, as the finder does, but a sofa of eight should expect the store to mean two different modes. Eight controllers is also a lot of controllers.

The picks, ranked

Ranking logic, in order: the Shared/split screen label, then the most seats on one Xbox, then the widest ESRB range. Fame does not count. The full 34 sit in the table after the picks.

1. Rocket League

  • On one console: the Xbox store lists local co-op 2-8 and local multiplayer 2-4 for Rocket League, checked Oct 24.
  • Screen: Shared/split screen label.
  • Why it is here: the most seats in the pool, an E rating, and a $0.00 price on the Xbox catalog the same day.
  • Pick it if: the group is big and nobody wants to read a tutorial.
  • The catch: the same listing prints local multiplayer as 2-4, so eight seats may mean one mode only.

2. Minecraft

  • On one console: local co-op 2-4 on the Xbox store, online co-op 2-8, checked Oct 24. The PlayStation Store lists 1-4 players; Nintendo's Switch listing reads Single system (1-4).
  • Screen: Shared/split screen label.
  • Why it is here: four seats, E10+, and the same seat count on every console store we track for Minecraft.
  • Pick it if: ages on the sofa run from 10 to 50.
  • The catch: $19.99 regular price if it leaves the catalog, checked Oct 24.

3. Bluey: The Videogame

  • On one console: local co-op 2-4 on the Xbox store; Nintendo lists Single system (1-4).
  • Screen: Shared/split screen label.
  • Why it is here: E rating and no online field at all. Bluey: The Videogame is a couch game or nothing.
  • Pick it if: the youngest player is the boss.
  • The catch: $29.99 regular price on the Xbox store, checked Oct 24, once it leaves Game Pass.

4. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

  • On one console: local co-op 2-4 on the Xbox store, online 2-4. Nintendo lists Single system (1-4).
  • Screen: Shared/split screen label.
  • Why it is here: the closest thing in the pool to a four-person kart night. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is E10+.
  • Pick it if: your group asked for "something like Mario Kart" on an Xbox.
  • The catch: the store calls the local field co-op; racing each other is still racing each other.

5. PlateUp!

  • On one console: local co-op 2-4 on the Xbox store; Steam adds the Shared/Split Screen label and Remote Play Together.
  • Screen: Shared/split screen label.
  • Why it is here: E rating, four seats, and the same label on two stores for PlateUp!.
  • Pick it if: your group liked kitchen games and wants a longer run.
  • The catch: $19.99 regular price on the Xbox store, checked Oct 24, outside Game Pass.

6. It Takes Two

  • On one console: local co-op for exactly 2 on the Xbox store, checked Oct 24. No single-player field.
  • Screen: Shared/split screen label.
  • Why it is here: the strongest two-person story pick in the pool. It Takes Two is rated T.
  • Pick it if: two adults want a campaign and nothing else.
  • The catch: $39.99 regular price on the Xbox store, checked Oct 24, if it ever leaves.

7. Halo: The Master Chief Collection

  • On one console: local co-op 2 and local multiplayer 2-4 on the Xbox store; online co-op 2-4 and online multiplayer 2-16, checked Oct 24.
  • Screen: Shared/split screen label.
  • Why it is here: two-player campaign co-op plus four-person versus on one Xbox, for Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
  • Pick it if: your sofa is all adults (ESRB M).
  • The catch: a third player can join versus, not the campaign.

8. Unravel Two

  • On one console: local co-op for 2 on the Xbox store; Nintendo lists Single system (1-2).
  • Screen: Shared/split screen label.
  • Why it is here: E rating and no online field. Unravel Two is built for two people in one room.
  • Pick it if: you want a calm two-player game for a parent and a child.
  • The catch: no third seat on any store we track.

Analysis

The label clusters at the two ends. Nine of the ten two-seat games carry it, and both eight-seat games do. In the four-seat group, only 10 of 22 do.

That middle group is where readers get stuck. Overcooked! 2, Moving Out 2 and Gang Beasts list 2-4 players on one Xbox and no screen field. That is not a "no". It is the store not saying.

Bar chart of the 34 Game Pass couch games by ESRB rating: 13 E, 12 E10+, 4 T, 5 M Chart: CouchCoopDesk, ESRB ratings from the Xbox store, checked Oct 18, 2026.

Ratings lean young. 25 of the 34 are E or E10+, so a family Game Pass night has the most choice. Adult two-seat campaigns are the thin slice: A Way Out, both Gears games and Halo, all rated M.

Most of these games are not Xbox-only. 29 of the 34 have a Steam listing in our data and 27 a Switch one, so a game that leaves Game Pass usually has another home.

Bar chart: of 34 Game Pass couch games, 29 also on Steam, 27 on Switch, 16 on PS5, 10 on Switch 2 Chart: CouchCoopDesk, store listings in our database, checked Oct 18, 2026.

Desk note: Microsoft's "Coming to Game Pass" list held 14 entries on Oct 24. One is a couch game in our data: Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School, with local co-op for 2, the Shared/split screen label and an E rating on the Xbox store. When it lands, the two-seat label count goes to 10 of 11.

What players say

Two questions keep coming back in r/XboxGamePass. A post from April 2026 asks: "Any games that have split screen and can be played for a total of 3 people?" The poster had started Gears 5 because they heard it was "the only one" for three.

The pool says otherwise: 24 of the 34 list four or more seats. Another post, from February 2026, asks for a game "equivalent to Mario Cart for xbox that offers 4 player split screen couch multiplayer". Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled was in the catalog on our read, with 2-4 seats and the label.

Our take

Start with Minecraft for four, It Takes Two for two. Both carry the Shared/split screen label, and Minecraft's 2-4 seats match on every console store we track. It Takes Two is co-op only, exactly two players.

Skip the eight-seat promise unless you own eight controllers and accept the store's own 2-4 multiplayer field. The catalog changes; we re-read Microsoft's list with the weekly store check and update this page when a pick leaves.

What we don't know yet

Which Game Pass tier includes each game. Microsoft's console list does not print the tier, and the Xbox store ties only online console multiplayer to Essential, Premium or Ultimate. We also cannot say how long any of these stay in the catalog.

How we checked this

We read Microsoft's Game Pass "All Console Games" and "Coming to Game Pass" lists on Oct 24 and matched them against the Xbox store ids in our database. Seats, labels, ratings and prices come from the Microsoft Store catalog, read on Oct 18 by our importer. We re-read eleven listings on Oct 24, all eight picks among them, and the fields matched. Regular prices are the catalog's MSRP field. Steam fields come from our importer's Oct 18 read. Reddit posts were read through the Arctic Shift archive. We did not play these games for this list.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Game Pass games have split screen? 21 of the 34 couch games we found in Microsoft's Game Pass console list carry the Xbox store's Shared/split screen label, read Oct 24. They include Minecraft, Bluey: The Videogame, It Takes Two, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Rocket League and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. The full list sits in our Game Pass couch co-op page.

Are there 3 player split screen games on Game Pass? Yes. 24 of the 34 Game Pass couch games list four or more players on one Xbox, so a third player fits. 12 of those 24 also carry the Shared/split screen label, among them Minecraft, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, PlateUp! and Goat Simulator 3. The other 12 list the seats without the label.

Do you need Game Pass to play split screen? Not for the local part. The Xbox store says online multiplayer on console requires Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, subscriptions sold separately. It ties no tier to local play. The seats on one console are a field of the game itself, so check that field before you pick a game for the sofa night.

What is the best 4 player couch game on Game Pass? Minecraft is our pick for mixed ages: the Xbox store lists local co-op for 2-4 players, the Shared/split screen label and an E10+ rating. For younger kids, Bluey: The Videogame lists the same 2-4 seats with an E rating and no online field at all, so nobody needs a subscription for it.

Which Game Pass couch games are rated E? 13 of the 34 carry an ESRB E on the Xbox store, including Bluey: The Videogame, Overcooked! 2, PlateUp!, Unravel Two and Rocket League. Another 12 are E10+. Five are rated M, among them Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Gears of War: E-Day, so check the box before a family night.

Is It Takes Two on Game Pass? Yes, on our Oct 24 read of Microsoft's Game Pass console list. The Xbox store lists local co-op for exactly 2 players and the Shared/split screen label, with a $39.99 regular price if it leaves the catalog. It is co-op only: the store lists no single-player field for it.
