Unravel Two Split Screen: 2 Players, Couch Only, No Online

Unravel Two split screen: up to 2 players on one console on Xbox, Switch and PS4, and no store lists online co-op. What each store's label really says.

TL;DR: Xbox lists Xbox local co-op (2-2) and prints its Shared/split screen label. Nintendo lists Single system (1-2), PlayStation 1 - 2 players. No store lists online co-op, but EA says PS4 players can team up through Share Play. On Switch, handheld mode is single player only. $19.99 everywhere we checked. Checked Oct 25, 2026.

Unravel Two, one of the games in this guide.

Two players fit on one console in Unravel Two, and no store we read lists online co-op. Unravel Two split screen is really a couch question, so decide first whether your second player is on the sofa or in another city.

As of Oct 25, 2026: Xbox, Nintendo and PlayStation pages re-read that day; Steam from an archived store page of Oct 3. The Unravel Two game page shows the latest check.

Key Takeaways

  • Up to two seats. Xbox 2-2, Nintendo 1-2, PS4 1 - 2.
  • Same label, two stores. Xbox and Steam print Shared/split screen.
  • No online co-op listed. EA names Share Play on PS4 instead.
  • Handheld is solo. Nintendo says so in its mode list.
  • $19.99. Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo, checked Oct 25.

Unravel Two split screen? (quick answer)

Up to two players on one console. Unravel Two lists Xbox local co-op (2-2) on the Xbox store, which also prints its Shared/split screen label. Xbox uses that one label for shared and split screens.

Store rows for Unravel Two: Xbox local co-op 2-2 with the split-screen label, Nintendo Single system 1-2, PS4 1 - 2 players, Steam archived page with the label Chart: CouchCoopDesk, Xbox, Nintendo and PlayStation pages checked Oct 25; Steam archived page Oct 3.

What the screen does comes from one review. Pure Nintendo's Switch review says: "The screen zooms out as the Yarnys separate (to a point)." We found no source that describes two halves.

Overview

Coldwood Interactive made it and Electronic Arts publishes it, per the Xbox store. It came out on 6/9/2018 there, rated Everyone for Mild Fantasy Violence; the Switch version followed in March 2019.

The Guardian's review called it "clearly meant to be a two-player experience". The Xbox text still allows a solo run: you build relationships "in local co-op or as a single player."

Desk note: 60 co-op games in our database seat exactly two on one console. Half of them, 30, list no online mode on any store, and Unravel Two is one, next to Cuphead and Untitled Goose Game. For a long-distance pair, that is a coin flip worth checking first.

Analysis: online, Share Play and Remote Play

No store lists online co-op for it. Nintendo World Report's Switch review is blunt: "Unravel Two does not have online play." Third Coast Review said the same of the 2018 release: "Too bad two player mode is only local."

There are two workarounds, one per platform. EA's own post says that "if you're on PlayStation 4, you can also play together online through Share Play!" On PC, the archived Steam page lists Remote Play Together.

Tips for two on one console

  • Switch players: use TV or Tabletop. Nintendo lists Handheld (single player only).
  • PS5 owners: the store sells the PS4 version and warns that some PS4 features may be absent on PS5.
  • Far apart? Share Play on PS4, or Remote Play Together on Steam.
  • Playing alone? The Xbox text allows a single player, and Nintendo and PlayStation list one to two.

What players say

In a June 2018 r/Unravel thread from the game's E3 reveal, one player quoted the Xbox listing's capabilities and added: "Too bad really, would love to play it with my brother using Xbox Live." A June 2020 PC thread reply added: "Played this game with two XBox controllers in co-op on PC."

Our take

Pick Unravel Two for two people on one sofa; skip it for an online pair. Every console store lists up to two players on one console, and none lists online co-op. For a remote friend, EA names Share Play on PS4, and Steam lists Remote Play Together.

Couples with more time should compare our 2-player games for couples list. We will re-check the stores if EA adds an online mode.

What we don't know yet

How the screen behaves when the two Yarnys move far apart, beyond the zoom Pure Nintendo describes. No store, EA page or review we read describes a split view.

How we checked this

We re-read the Xbox store page, Nintendo's Switch listing and the PS4 concept page on Oct 25, plus EA's game page and Share Play post. Steam fields come from an archived store page of Oct 3; Steam's own site was not reachable. Reviews: The Guardian, Third Coast Review, Nintendo World Report, Pure Nintendo. Player lines come from the Reddit archive we use. We did not play Unravel Two for this article.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Unravel Two split screen? The Xbox store prints its Shared/split screen label for it, and an archived Steam page lists Shared/Split Screen Co-op. Both stores use that one label for shared and split screens. Pure Nintendo's Switch review writes that the screen zooms out as the Yarnys separate, and no source we read describes two halves.

Can you play Unravel Two online? No store we read lists online co-op. Nintendo World Report's Switch review says the game does not have online play. On PS4, EA's own post names a remote route: you can also play together online through Share Play. On PC, the archived Steam page lists Remote Play Together.

How many players is Unravel Two? One or two. The Xbox store lists Xbox local co-op (2-2), Nintendo lists Single system (1-2) and the PlayStation Store lists 1 - 2 players for PS4. The Xbox and EA text both say local co-op or as a single player, so a solo run is possible.

Can two players play Unravel Two in handheld mode on Switch? No. Nintendo's listing names the supported modes as TV, Tabletop and Handheld (single player only). For two players on Switch, use TV or Tabletop mode on one console. Nintendo lists no Local wireless line and no Online line for this game.

Is Unravel Two on PS5? The PlayStation Store sells the PS4 version and says it is playable on PS5, adding that some features available on PS4 may be absent. The store lists 1 - 2 players and Remote Play supported. Our database has no separate PS5 row for it.

How much is Unravel Two? $19.99 on the Xbox store, on the PlayStation Store and as Nintendo's regular price for Switch, all checked Oct 25. We did not use the archived Steam page's price, which showed a promotion that day. Xbox and PlayStation rate it Everyone for Mild Fantasy Violence.
