Text card reading 4 monsters on one console, 2 online, Xbox prints the Shared/split screen label, out Nov 3 at $29.99 on Switch 2

Four monsters fit on one TV in Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee split screen, but only two can meet online. The remaster of the 2002 arena brawler is built for a room full of players, so buy it for the sofa, not for a long-distance rival.

As of Oct 24, 2026: Xbox, Nintendo and PlayStation listings read that day, before launch. See upcoming co-op games for the latest dates.

Key Takeaways

  • Four on one console, three stores. Xbox, Switch 2 and PlayStation agree.
  • Two online. Every store caps online at two.
  • Xbox prints the label. Shared/split screen, with local multiplayer 2-4.
  • A versus game. The store text says "Face off against your friends".
  • $29.99 on Switch 2, rated T, out November 3.

Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee split screen: what the stores say

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is Atari's remaster of the 2002 fighter, made with Pipeworks, the original developer. Nintendo's listing calls it "The original 2002 Godzilla arena fighter, remastered."

The Xbox label covers split-screen or one shared screen, and the store does not say which. Our split screen vs shared screen explainer covers the difference. For an arena fighter, the label is the closest thing to a yes that any store prints.

Overview

The store text uses the word co-op loosely. Nintendo's listing says "Face off against your friends in local co-op or new online multiplayer." Facing off is versus. The Xbox store agrees: it files the local count as multiplayer, with no local co-op field.

Bar chart: Godzilla Melee Remastered lists four players on one console and two online, the same on Xbox, Switch 2 and PlayStation Chart: CouchCoopDesk, store listings, checked Oct 24, 2026.

The roster is set. Nintendo's listing names "12 Kaiju to choose from, each with a uniquely vicious moveset" and "8 locations, including recreated real-world cities, Monster Island, and the Alien Mothership", each with day and night variations.

Desk note: Only 3 of the 84 Xbox games in our database that list both a local and an online count seat more people on the sofa than online: EA SPORTS FC 26, MLB The Show 26 and Streets of Rage 4. Godzilla Melee Remastered joins them at four local, two online. For once the couch gets the bigger party.

Analysis

Why does local beat online here? The stores do not say. What they do say is consistent: four on one console, two over the internet, on every console store we read.

Bar chart of Xbox games in our database with both local and online counts: 3 of 84 seat more locally than online, 81 seat the same or more online Chart: CouchCoopDesk, data from the Xbox store, checked Oct 18, 2026.

GODEEPER: Four-seat party games where the Xbox store also files local play as multiplayer. LEGO Party split screen

Online has the usual gates. The PlayStation Store says "PS Plus required for online play" and "Supports up to 2 online players with PS Plus". A room of four needs none of that.

Solo players get something too. Nintendo's listing says the remaster "Also includes additional single-player campaigns for each kaiju", and an "Improved unlock system gives you the choice to unlock monsters, locations, and gallery items in any order."

The Xbox version is current-generation only. The Xbox store says: "This title is only available on Xbox Series X|S". Nintendo lists it for Switch 2, and the PlayStation Store page shows a PS5 version.

What players say

The game was not out when we checked, and we found no player discussion we could quote. The Reddit archive we use was rate-limited on Oct 24. We will add player voices after launch week.

Our take

Buy Godzilla Melee Remastered for four on one console; skip it for online-only friends. Every console store lists four local seats and two online. The Xbox store adds the Shared/split screen label.

At $29.99 on Switch 2, it is a cheap four-player fighter if your group likes versus. We will re-read the listings on November 3 and add Xbox and PlayStation prices.

What we don't know yet

Prices on Xbox and PlayStation, which neither store showed before launch. We also could not read the Steam listing, so the PC player count is not confirmed, and no store says how the screen is laid out for four.

How we checked this

We read the Xbox catalog entry, Nintendo's Switch 2 listing and the PlayStation Store page on Oct 24, before launch. The Xbox store's Series X|S note comes from its store page summary. The comparison count comes from our Oct 18 Xbox store data. We did not play Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered, which was not out yet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered have split screen? The Xbox store says yes: it carries the Shared/split screen label with local multiplayer for 2-4 players. Nintendo lists Single system (1-4) and the PlayStation Store lists 1 - 4 players, neither with a screen field. All three store descriptions talk about facing friends in local co-op.

How many players can play Godzilla Melee Remastered? Four on one console and two online. The Xbox store lists local multiplayer 2-4 and online multiplayer 2-2, Nintendo lists Single system (1-4) and Online (2), and the PlayStation Store lists 1 - 4 players and 2 online players, checked Oct 24.

When does Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered come out? November 3. Nintendo's Switch 2 listing shows that date and the PlayStation Store shows 11/3/2026. The Xbox store says the title is only available on Xbox Series X|S. A Steam listing exists, which we could not read from our network, so we do not state a PC date.

Is Godzilla Melee Remastered co-op or versus? Versus. The store text says to face off against your friends, and the Xbox store files the local count as multiplayer, not co-op. Each of the 12 kaiju has its own moveset, per Nintendo's listing, and each also gets a single-player campaign for solo nights.

Do you need PS Plus or Nintendo Switch Online for Godzilla Melee? Only online. The PlayStation Store says PS Plus is required for online play, with up to 2 online players. Nintendo lists Online (2) under its online services. Four people on one console need no subscription, just four controllers and one copy of the game.

How much is Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered? $29.99 regular price on Nintendo's Switch 2 listing, checked Oct 24. The Xbox catalog and the PlayStation Store page showed no price yet, so we only quote the Switch 2 price until launch and will add the others after November 3.
