Four people can play on one TV for less than a sandwich. Vampire Survivors local co-op puts up to four players on one shared screen, so the choice is about how many controllers you own, not about a second copy.

As of Oct 24, 2026: Nintendo, PlayStation and poncle pages re-read that day; Steam fields from our Oct 18 store data. The Vampire Survivors game page shows the latest check.

Key Takeaways

  • Four on one screen. poncle and Nintendo both say 1-4.
  • Not split. Everyone shares one picture.
  • Local only, officially. poncle says online is "Not officially!"
  • Free update. poncle: co-op costs nothing extra.
  • $4.99. One of two four-seat Switch games under $5 in our data.

Vampire Survivors local co-op? (quick answer)

Yes, for up to four. Vampire Survivors added couch co-op in an update, and poncle's FAQ sums it up: "Up to 4 players in total in local couch co-op." Nintendo's listing adds that "The whole game is also playable in 1-4 player couch co-op."

Four rows for Vampire Survivors: Nintendo Single system 1-4 with couch co-op text, PlayStation 1-4 players, Steam with no split-screen label in our data, poncle up to 4 local with no split screen Chart: CouchCoopDesk, data from the Nintendo and PlayStation stores and poncle, checked Oct 24.

It is one shared screen. PC Gamer quoted poncle at the announcement: "all players will always be visible on the same screen (so no splitscreen)". Our split screen vs shared screen explainer covers the difference.

Overview

poncle makes and publishes it. The co-op update launched on August 17, 2023, per poncle, and poncle says "The co-op update is completely free on all formats."

The sources disagree on online. Nintendo lists Online (1-4) and PlayStation lists 4 online players, while poncle says online co-op is not official. Our Steam data also shows no local co-op category, though poncle lists Steam for local co-op; we will re-read Steam's fields.

Desk note: 92 Switch listings in our database seat four or more on one console and show a regular price. Only 2 cost under $5: PICO PARK and Vampire Survivors. For four people on one Switch, nothing on our list is cheaper.

Bar chart of 92 Switch listings with Single system 4 or more: 2 under 5 dollars, 25 from 5 to 19.99 dollars, 65 at 20 dollars or more Chart: CouchCoopDesk, data from the Nintendo store, checked Oct 18.

Analysis

Setup is quick. Eurogamer reported: "All you need is one controller per player, and you can then add up to three additional people on the character-select screen." poncle's FAQ jokes you could also play "on your own by using 4 controllers at once!", then asks you not to.

GODEEPER: Four-seat picks for families, with each store's rating. Co-op games to play with kids

Nothing is locked behind co-op. poncle says: "We designed the co-op mode in a way that you can play through all of Vampire Survivors with friends, but there won't be co-op specific levels." It adds there are no co-op achievements either, so a solo player misses nothing.

Bar chart of ways to play Vampire Survivors together: four on one shared screen locally, none officially online, four through Steam Remote Play Together Chart: CouchCoopDesk, from poncle's co-op FAQ and the store listings, checked Oct 24.

For friends far away, poncle points to PC. Its FAQ recommends "unofficial solutions like Steam Remote Play Together on PC". Our Steam data lists Remote Play Together for the game. Our Remote Play Together explainer covers how that works.

What players say

We could not find a player quote on couch play we could verify. The Arctic Shift archive rejected our search on Oct 24, and no Reddit thread on local co-op came up in search results. We will add a line on the next check.

Our take

Pick Vampire Survivors for up to four on one TV at $4.99; skip it for online nights. poncle and Nintendo both list four on one screen, and poncle says online is not official. The co-op update was free.

Groups that need online play should look at our crossplay co-op list. We will re-check the Steam fields and PlayStation online listing in November.

What we don't know yet

Why the PlayStation and Nintendo pages list online play that poncle calls unofficial. poncle's FAQ also leaves PlayStation off its co-op platform list. We could not read a current Steam page from our network.

How we checked this

We re-read the Nintendo Switch listing, the PlayStation Store page and poncle's co-op FAQ on Oct 24, along with PC Gamer's and Eurogamer's reports on the co-op update. Steam fields come from our importer's Oct 18 read; Steam pages do not load from our network. We did not play Vampire Survivors for this article.
